Mini-stories: Pokemon Cusack

A Meeting Most Discerning

"So, Professor...just what was her story?" Thom asks as the two witness the strange girl walk off.

"She faced down a wild Victreebel that had been terrorizing the forest recently...I was hoping you would do it yourself, but she seems to have solved it humanely enough. She rescued an Eevee in the process too, although she doesn't seem to want to listen to me for much. Strong-headed and stubborn, like most later-starting trainers..." Prof. Rowan states, sighing lightly and nodding to Thom and Aurora.

"Sounds like you, Thom. Perhaps we should follow after her?" Aurora questions, Thom rolling his eyes and placing a hand on her muzzle.

"No, we've got stuff to do here, Aurora. Food, y'know? I can't keep myself strong without it. Even a Lucario needs food to work properly....unless being touched by you absolves that too?" he says, looking at Aurora curiously as she looks aside lightly.

"It does not...but nourishment from water will keep you strong in times of need...for now, we eat." Thom looks to Prof. Rowan as he smiles, the professor of pokemon giving a light laugh and gesturing for the two to follow back to the laboratory.

It takes a half hour and some minutes of keeping Aurora away from the water, but eventually some tofu is shaped up for lunch and a set of sushi also set on the side for Thom and Prof. Rowan. Just as Thom and Rowan are about to start eating, "I'm going to set outside for a bit....is that okay, Thom?" He pauses, looking into Aurora's eyes and nodding silently with that gaze of reassurance before she nods back and heads out.

"So...you two have a deep connection already." Prof. Rowan states, picking up some tofu to munch. Thom smirks and shakes his head, snatching up a piece of tofu with his own chopsticks.

"You know it too, eh professor? I guess it isn't hard to tell that she's chosen me as her 'avatar' to the trainer world, but the fact that we've already has some troubles beforehand is. I've dealt with Team Rocket's Giovanni already, he's tried many times to stop us and it's through my skill we've come out on top. I would tell you more, but I want to know this girls' name you met..."

"You'll get to hear her name for yourself, Thom. I have a feeling you'll meet with her again when it comes time."

"Reallly? You're certain of that?" Thom asks, slightly incredulous. The professor only nods, smiling lightly as he continues to eat. Thom then takes a few bites himself, the rest of the conversation turning to recent events and simply becoming normal conversation...up until.

"So by now, I've had to deal with Misty constantly asking me for advice on water-types...you'd think the girl already knows these things, but really it's so weird to...." Thom trails off, noticing that Prof. Rowan was chuckling softly, "What's wrong, professor?"

"You don't see it yet, do you? That powerful aura you emanate, the grace and skill you've demonstrated and how you simply just can't be fazed by anything dangerous..."

"What Aura...professor, what are you talking about?" Thom asks, confused and lightly pondering just what he was getting at.

"Since you've been touched by Aurora, things about you have changed subtly. I don't mean your age slowing down, either...this has more to do with just how much strength and cunning you display at a time. You may not know it yet, but this change will show itself at a point of great conflict and prove just how much Aurora is a part of your life now. The reason a Legendary Pokemon chooses a hero is not for their convenience or usefulness, but for how much potential they display. I'm sure you'll do well, Thom, you made it to Champion before now." Thom splutters a little at his sip of tea, lightly cleaning up the mess he makes.

"S-sorry Professor..." he apologizes, "But, you remember what happened before you entered that day? Why I turned down the offer to take over Cynthia's spot?" he asks, curious about the Professor's reconnaissance.

"To put it lightly, I've talked with her since last we'd met...it's been enough years for me to realize that you were right in choosing to leave it behind you. Seeing you now...it reminds me much of those old legends from far back, those regarding the Time Pokemon Dialga and the Space Pokemon Palkia. I remember you've been to Sky Pillar once and have seen that place for yourself, the last spot where the two were seen..." Thom nods, Prof. Rowan continuing, "Well, that girl we've met...she is like you as well, destined foor something beyond her current knowledge. If you follow her, the chance is that you'll get dragged into her history as well and cause all sorts of things to happen...it isn't unknown for disaster to follow a legendary, but it isn't unheard of for great help to follow as well. We've recently been dealing with a group known as Team Galactic, they're like Team Rocket but less formal..."

"Less like a mob family and more like a generic mob that just wants to get it's own way, huh?"

"They care not for emotions, Thom. You'll discover this around all of them when you've met, few who've come away from a battle against the Galactic grunts feel like they've accomplished something. I advise you to think first before fighting against them, it could lead to a very dangerous pursuit that could tear the fabric of reality." Thom thinks on this, frowning lightly and then eventually standing up.

"I would stay, Professor...but the conversation is a bit...sour now. I'm sorry, it isn't you but what I've learned from it all. I must go, there seems to be much to do since I last was here. Good luck, professor." Thom states, heading out and getting greeted shortly by Aurora and then running off with her before the professor can get a word of luck to him.

"...good luck, Thom. Danger follows those with reckless hearts, don't make yourself a target if you can avoid it." he says, settling back down to finish the remains of lunch.

~~Elsewhere, not far off from Whing, Echo and Cusack~~

"Hrmm...so you saw her battle, Aurora..." Thom asks quietly as they follow, surprisingly silently for how fast they were moving.

"Yes...she already displays tactical skill and prowess with knowing what to do."

"Nothing further...?"

"Not yet...but-" Aurora quiets, as Thom accidentally steps on a twig and causes a sharp snap to spring up, Aurora darting away and disappearing from sight before anyone can tell she was there. He looks to the girls to find they'd found him, and he smiles lightly and gives a wave before heading closer but only to the edge of the path they were following.

"Hi, sorry about the sudden noise...I was just coming this way and saw you three on your way to Jubilife City, any chance I could follow at the back a bit?" he asks, knowing Aurora had taken to the treetops to avoid detection.
